Fee Information for Graduates from outside Canada

You must pay a non-refundable evaluation fee to begin the application process. If you are eligible for a certificate, you will also need to pay a one-time certificate fee and an annual membership fee to receive your certificate.

Non-refundable application fee

As a graduate of a teacher education program outside of Canada, you are required to pay a $320 evaluation fee. Please include your payment with your application form. We cannot create a file for you until the evaluation fee is paid.

Application fee:

$320

Certificate fee

Once we have evaluated your complete application, we will tell you if you qualify for a certificate. If you qualify, you must pay a one-time certificate fee to receive your certificate.

Certificate fee:

$75

Annual Membership Fee

You must also pay an annual membership fee to keep your certificate valid. For the first year that you are a member of the College, you pay a pro-rated fee based on when you become a member. We will not issue your certificate until you have paid this fee.

Certificate valid July 1-June 30 (12 months):

$90

Certificate valid September 1-June 30 (9 months):

$90

Certificate valid January 1-June 30 (6 months):

$60

Certificate valid May 1-June 30 + the following July 1-June 30 (14 months):

$120

The membership fee must be paid each year before June 30. Because the May 1 effective date is so close to the renewal deadline, we require a pro-rated fee for the current school year ($30) plus the full annual fee ($90) for the following school year before we will issue your certificate.

If you qualify for a certificate, we will notify you in writing to tell you how much you must pay for your certificate fee and annual membership fee.

Once you are a member of the College, you will need to pay the full annual membership fee of $90 by June 30 each year to maintain a valid certificate.

Payment Options

You can pay by personal cheque, money order, or bank draft, payable to the BC College of Teachers.

You can also pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express by completing the credit card authorization section on page 1 of the Application for Teacher's Certificate of Qualification form.

If you pay by a personal cheque from a non-Canadian financial institution, the cheque must be in the legal currency of the country in which that institution resides, at the equivalent foreign exchange rate. We suggest that you add 2% to compensate for possible exchange rate fluctuations. You can avoid this additional 2% charge by purchasing a money order or bank draft in Canadian dollars.

Other fees

You may need to pay other fees to complete your application. These may include the cost to translate documents and the cost of a language proficiency test.

If some of your documents are in languages other than English or French, you will need to have them translated according to our Translation Policy. Translation costs may be quite high, depending on the hourly rate of the translator you hire and the length of the documents.

You will also need to pay for a language proficiency test if you completed any post-secondary studies in a country where the only official language is not English or French. The cost for these tests depends on the provider (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS) you select.
