Workshops

The BC College of Teachers has developed a series of workshops that can be delivered to your organization. An important part of the mandate of the College is to educate and expand awareness among the profession and the public about professional standards for educators and how each member of the educational community can contribute to upholding those standards. The College has a duty to ensure that its members and the public understand its functions and responsibilities as they relate to maintaining professionalism and preventing and addressing concerns of misconduct.

Developing Professional Identity as an Educator

An interactive workshop for pre-service teachers that allows participants to reflect on the nature of the professional relationship and what it means for teachers and their students.

Understanding the Professional Relationship: Respecting the Boundaries

An interactive workshop that explores the defining characteristics of a professional relationship and the appropriate parameters of a student-teacher relationship.

The Informal Resolution Process

This session gives participants a chance to understand how the College’s informal resolution process works, when it’s appropriate to be used and why it forms such an important part of professional self-regulation.

The Investigation Process

College investigators will explain and clarify the purpose and role of investigations under the Teaching Profession Act and will explain, step-by-step, the processes followed in an investigation.

Person Complaints

This workshop will provide information about the College’s person complaint process: its legislative authority, the procedures followed and the role of the Intake Officer in gathering information.

DVD on Boundary Violations

Keeping You and Your Students Safe: Protecting the Boundaries of the Professional Relationship is a presentation designed to raise awareness about the vulnerabilities and circumstances that might cultivate an environment where boundary violations could more easily occur. Our aim is to increase understanding of the appropriate parameters of the teacher-student relationship in order to prevent violations from occurring. We believe that some of these transgressions can be prevented through better training and understanding about the boundaries of the professional relationship. Every school district in the province, as well as each of the College’s partner groups, will receive a copy of the DVD for use with teachers and administrators working in the field.

Please contact the College at intake@bcct.ca or call us at 604.731.8170 and ask for the Intake Officer (extension 339) if you are interested in any of the workshops.
