News Room
Who we are
The BC College of Teachers is the professional self-regulatory body for teachers
in British Columbia. Created in 1988 by the Teaching Profession Act, we
regulate the teaching profession in the public interest. The College ensures
that teachers meet the standards mandated by our 20-member council in
compliance with the Teaching Profession Act.
We are the body responsible for issuing teaching licences, setting standards for
education, competence and professional conduct, accrediting university teacher
education programs and responding to complaints about members through our
disciplinary process.
Our 70,000 members are classroom teachers, principals, vice-principals,
superintendents, and other educators in the public, independent, and first
nations school systems of British Columbia.
We are proud to serve the children, parents, and public of British Columbia and
honour their trust by undertaking our responsibilities in a fair, responsible
and independent manner. We work together with our professional members to
advance the education profession in BC for the benefit of all learners.
How We Communicate
