Proof of Certification
There are two primary ways in which you can prove that you are a member in good
standing of the College. The first is to present to your employer a copy of
your Certificate Verification Card. These cards are mailed during the summer
to members who have paid their Annual
Certificate Fee. The second way that you can prove your status is to check the
Online Register of Certificate Holders. The online register is
linked to our database and is an authoritative and up-to-date account of your
current status.
Statement of Professional Standing
If you hold - or have held - a BC teaching certificate and are applying for a
teaching credential from a jurisdiction outside of BC, the agency to which you
are applying (usually a College of Teachers or Ministry/Department of
Education) will require that a Statement of Professional Standing be sent
directly from our office. The statement confirms whether or not your
certificate is in good standing (that is, whether or not it has been cancelled
or suspended for any reason). If your certificate is valid (you have paid the
annual certificate fee), there is no fee for the Statement of Standing. If your
certificate has expired or been cancelled for non-payment of fees, there is a
processing fee of $60.00 for this statement.
Proof of Certification for Award Nominations
Nomination packages for awards such as the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence often require evidence that
nominee’s teacher certification remains in good standing. Please send an email to the College requesting
this letter. Please be sure to include the teacher’s name, certificate number, and whether the letter is to
be sent to the nominator (nominator name, school name and address) or the nominee.
