Committees
The Teaching Profession Act requires the Council to form three statutory committees. These are:
The Qualifications Committee
The Qualifications Committee examines and develops bylaws and policies that relate to the criteria for certification and membership in the College for out-of-province applicants. The Committee reviews evaluation decisions concerning the type of certificate issued or the course work required to make an interim certificate permanent.
The Committee is also responsible for conducting appeals in regards to certification decisions where certification has been denied. The Fitness Investigation Sub-Committee (FISC) reviews issues relating to suitability of applicants to the College. FISC may recommend membership directly to the Council or, after investigation, may recommend that a membership hearing be convened.

Teacher Education Committee
The Teacher Education Committee drafts and recommends policies and bylaws in the areas of educator preparation, competence and continuing education. It cooperates with the Faculties of Education in the design of teacher education programs leading to certification by the College.
For the last 13 years, the Committee has conducted surveys of recent graduates of teacher education programs every three years, makes this information available to the Faculties of Education, and publishes a summary for wider distribution.

Discipline Committee
The Discipline Committee drafts and recommends policies and bylaws relating to the discipline process. The Preliminary Investigation Sub-committee (PISC) conducts preliminary investigations and determines the initial disposition of discipline cases reported to the College. In the event that PISC issues a citation, a Hearing Sub-Committee is appointed to conduct a hearing to determine the guilt or innocence of the member as outlined in the citation.
The Hearing Sub-Committee may, after hearing the evidence, dismiss the case or find the member guilty of professional misconduct and/or conduct unbecoming a member or incompetence. Where there is a finding of guilt, the Hearing Sub-Committee recommends a penalty to the Council of the College.
